Umbria Jazz Winter #16: a great success in Orvieto (English)
Pubblicato il 05 maggio 2009
As the 16th edition of Umbria Jazz Winter comes to an end we've
seen once again that the international festival has proved to be a
great success, despite Joao Jilberto's cancellation. The number of
visitors increased by 25% compared to last year.
The Umbrian hill
top town, attracted thousands of visitors during the six day festival.
Fans filled the theatre, concert halls and restaurants to enjoy the 120
concerts.
Organizers and staff were kept very busy throughout the
event. Hotels were full, restaurants and bars working overtime, and one
things for sure - music was everywhere. The bars and wine cafés all
providing live entertainment. A new night spot, called Bevi Piano, was
inaugurated during the festival, and it was actually one of the owners
who provided the entertainment here on his piano.
There
was no shortage of music outside the programme of events either. One
evening, a saxophone player after performing at the Palazzo dei Sette,
went on to improvise a free concert with a young up and coming band
from Orvieto at the Caffe Cavour.
Unfortunately the enthusiasm wasn't
shared by everybody and two of the main bars in the historical centre
closed just before midnight on New Years Eve. Their customers moved out
into the main street, Corso Cavour, to continue celebrating and move on
elsewhere.
